In the Parable of the 10 Virgins, Matthew writes that " the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins". Five were foolish, and five were prudent. The prudent took flasks of oil with them, but the foolish took no oil. Now when the bridegroom came there was first a shout at midnight, "Behold", the bridegroom! Come out to meet Him." Now the foolish who did not bring extra oil in flasks, asked the prudent for some oil, but there was not enough for both the prudent and the foolish. So the prudent said for the foolish to go to the dealers to buy more oil.
While the foolish went to buy more oil, the bridegroom came; the prudent virgins went in with Him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut. Later when the foolish virgins returned with their purchased oil, they knocked on the door and said, "Lord, Lord, open up for us." He responded, "Truly I say to you, I do not know you."
So how do we purchase oil for our lamps? We gain more oil by fellowship with the Lord. The bridegroom said when they knocked on the door, "I do not know you." Through fellowship we gain intimacy with the Lord. So the next question is, how do we fellowship with the Lord? As believers in the Messiah, we are instructed to follow His example. He followed the Torah always. By following the Word, we grow to know Him. "Faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the Word of the Messiah." Rom 10:17
Many Christians have separated themselves from the Torah, saying I am no longer under the law. However, this is a fallacy of Christianity. True believers follow the Word of the Lord. There is not one Word for believers, and one Word for Jews. It is all the Word of YHWH.
We cannot pick and choose which commandments we follow and which commandments we ignore. Yahshua is the Word made flesh. Every word of YHWH is what Yahshua came to fulfill, and will return to complete. "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of YHWH, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of YHWH."
"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:12-14
Fellowship with YHWH is the key. "If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Yahshua His Son cleanses us from all sin." 1 John 1:6,7 To practice the truth is to follow His Word. Our salvation is guaranteed through faith in Yahshua, but His blessings come from obedience to His Word.
What does Yahshua say about this following of His Word? "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter(jot) or stroke(tittle) shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished."
"Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and so teaches others, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:17-19
Clearly His Word was important to the Messiah, and keeping and practicing His Word was imperative to all believers until all is accomplished. So what about the foolish virgins from the Parable, are they left out of heaven? Absolutely not; they are virgins so that means they are believers and have no sin. However, they do not get into the marriage supper of the Lamb! The door was shut and they are left out in the outer court. Only those who have followed the Word of both Covenants can enter the inner court. This layout of inner and outer chambers follows the description of the design of the Temple.
So are the Holy Feasts of YHWH important to Him? Most definitely! "Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles(Sukkot), and it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, there will be no rain on them. And if the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the Lord smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. (Zechariah 14:16-19) Keep the Feasts! Beware of pagan festivals.
